Key Words
- Polynomial-An expression consisting of variables, coefficients, and operations of addition, division, multiplication and subtraction.
- Monomial-An algebraic expression with one term.
- Binomial- A polynomial with 2 terms.
- Trinomial- An expression with 3 terms.
- Algebra-
- Term-In Algebra a term is either:
- * a single number, or
- * a variable, or
* numbers and variables multiplied together. See below for picture of terms.
Note: the coefficients (the numbers you multiply by, such as "5" in 5x) can be different.
- Example: 7x x -2x
2. Example: (1/3)xy2 -2xy2 6xy2
Are all like terms because the variables are all xy2
- Degree of a Term- The sum of the exponents on the variables in a single term.
